Walking in My Mind explores the inner workings of the artist's imagination through immersive, large-scale installation art. Ten international artists transform the Hayward Gallery's indoor galleries and outdoor sculpture terraces into a series of gigantic sculptural environments, each of which represents an individual mindscape. Interior worlds of emotions, thoughts, memories and dreams collide with exterior reality, blurring the boundaries between inner and outer space.
Artists include: Charles Avery, Thomas Hirschhorn, Yayoi Kusama, Bo Christian Larsson, Mark Manders, Yoshitomo Nara, Jason Rhoades, Pipilotti Rist, Chiharu Shiota and Keith Tyson.

THE STATE I'M IN
I like compiling my blog with quotes and images that some how manage to pin down my never ending thoughts that are shaping my work.
I thought I would just try and explain everything so far on my blog as it's kind of made up of two thought paths. The first posts from 3/02/09 (Grunge) to 17/02/09 (David LaChapelle) being PATH 1. This path reflects the topics of my 2nd year essay grunge/ bohemians and a "cult of cool". This path is about observing image and lifestyle. Once I finished my essay i seemed to start developing a different avenue of interest which is how PATH 2 came about. This path began from post 24/05/09 (Beautiful Vodoo Doll) and is more of a reflection of thoughts I'm having at the moment which are very much to do with STATES OF BEING AND SEEING and this is the path which I feel my blog is going to continue developing.

Prada Spring/ Summer 2008 Advertising Campaign
Illustrations by James Jean
Analysing the campaign it draws you in to a dream-like world. When looking at the visual content of the print it contains this enchanted forest. An otherworldly camouflage image which captures the viewer. Enticing them with the underlying darkness created by the surreal inspired art nouveau edge.
(Also part of the series of work is Trembled Blossoms, a four minute animated short)

Arcadia
The mythical and legendary land to which, in the eyes of The Libertines (Carl Barat and Peter Doherty) , the Albion is sailing to a dreamland. Arcadia is a poetic ideal of a place where everythings good and right, anywhere you can find peace. A place with no laws, boundaries and there is liberty everywhere.
It's an awareness of your surroundings; you're not gonna force yourself on anyone and, equally, no-one's gonna force themselves on you. And it's about community and pleasure. It came from a whisper through the trees. It came from a crack in the pavement. It can also come when you open a bag of crisps, or when you kick a football against a goalpost. Even if I was winding you up, it would still be true, because Arcadia and the Arcadian Dream is so deep, is so true to our hearts... It can be as powerful as your imagination can allow it to be. But, it can also be as dark and twisted as your soul... Arcadia encompasses the infinite, and that's why it comforts me."

AMBIGUOUS, ISOLATION, ALIENATION, DISENCHANTMENT
A fictionlised account of Kurt Cobain's last days. Michael Pitt playing Blake a character based on Cobain. With a near total lack of dialogue except for the brief mutterings here and there this beautifully shot piece is what's so powerful and important to this film. The viewer is very much the second thought and priority in this sad, isolated account of a man whos behaviour through out is mostly walking around, muttering. The viewer sits back observing his alienated journey carefully constructed through the key complex relationship between the scenery and noises Gus Van Sant created. The scenery could be seen as reflecting Blake's own deteriation. I watched this film very early in the morning alone and felt it may have been more powerful doing so because of Blake's own isolated state and in a way how you as the viewer watching alone build up your own intimate connection with the character. I feel the emotion I got from the film may have been effected if I had watched it any other way.
